Because the spiders were in the medical text that the German Egyptologist translated, the spider in the old picture from a tomb near Bawiti was the same as the spider Ayman had seen and Ayman had described the spider before he saw the picture. 9- Why was it impossible to destroy all the spiders at the archaeological site? No one knows where the spiders live under the ground. They didn't know how big the area was. Some spiders may hide in underground tombs and passages. This would damage an important archaeological site. This matter must be decided at a higher level. 10- "Wafaa Sultan and her team faced a lot of troubles during their journey back with the Negra plant from Sinai." Explain. There were a bad storm, lightening, thunder and heavy rain. It was difficult to cross the three Wadis because of the flood. The road was narrow, steep, rocky and had no surface. 11- Fight the spiders involved a lot of people and it became international problem. Discuss. Ayman Hassan was the only one who saw the big female spider. Dr Shreen who translated an old text about the deadly spiders in ancient Egypt and exchanged e-mails with Ayman and others to identify the spider Ayman had seen. The Egyptian archaeologist who sent a deadly spider picture from a tomb in Bawiti. Susan Bennett who helped Dr Shreen to consult professor Jones. Professor Jones, the world's top arachnlogist flew to Egypt to identify it . The German Egyptologist who sent Dr Shreen medical translated text about the Negra plant that the ancient Egyptians used for the bites of the black and yellow spiders. Colonel Mikail, Captain Ahmed & the policemen who lead the fight against the spiders. Wafaa Sultan and her team; Captain Osama, Farouk who went to Sinai to get it, 12- "Modern technology& the internet were used widely in the story." Explain. The robbers used GPR and a computer to see through the walls. Ayman used the internet to get information about the spider he saw. The pilot used the radio to report the police about the dead robbers. Susan Bennette used the data base CD to look for the spiders. Professor Jones used a smoker with insecticide spray to kill the spiders. Ayman Hassan was put on a ventilator to be kept alive. The internet enabled Ayman and Dr Shreen exchanged e-mails about the spiders. 13- Ayman was more interested in the spider than being afraid of it when he saw it in the garden for the first time." Prove. He went close to it and described it accurately. He used the Web to get information to identify it. He went with Captain Ahmed and Professor Jones to the site to identify it and to the empty house to kill the female spider. 14- How was Wafaa Sultan brave with high sense of duty and Ayman owes his life to her? She went to Sinai to get the Negra plant to save Ayman. She drove back alone with the plants through lightning, thunder, storm and heavy rain exposing her life to death. 15- How was Ayman brave, keen observer, intelligent & sacrificed himself to save others? He described the spider accurately when he saw it in the garden. He used the flash of the camera to blind the female spider for a second to kill when it was near his sister's head and sacrificed his life to save the world from the killer female spider. 16- "Uncle Walid was a wise man who loved his home town." Prove. He advised Ayman not to tell the police unless he was sure of the danger of the spiders. He was afraid that business & people in the town would be affected negatively. 17- "Ayman wasn't for the idea of telling the police about the spiders however he himself told the police chief later." Illustrate. He didn't want to tell the police as everyone would laugh at him, yet when the six archaeologists were killed by the spiders, he told Colonel Mikhail everything. 18- In what way was the ancient Egyptians pioneer at medicine? The ancient Egyptian made medicine from the Negra plants for the bites of the black and yellow deadly spiders. 19- Where did the female spider build itself a nest in the town? Why? In an empty house as it needed a secret place which was cool, dark, quiet and safe to lay eggs and make its family. 20- Why couldn't hospitals treat the bites of the deadly spiders? As these spiders are unknown so there was no anti-venom for them. 21- What did Ayman's family think of Ayman's story about the spiders? They believed that half of it was true and the rest was Ayman's imagination. 22- Why did Dr Shreen feel a shiver on seeing the old picture of the spider which was sent by the Egyptian archaeologist? As it was the same as the spider Ayman had described so these spiders are real, dangerous and may be deadly like the spiders in the old text. 23- What was Ayman's favourite hobby and why? The internet. He used it for his studies and making friends. 24- What did the police officers get from the fire department & why? Protective clothes to protect themselves from the spiders' bites. 25- Why had a fence been built around the archaeological site? To prevent anyone from going into or getting out of the site. 26- Why was it difficult to produce a safe anti-venom for the unknown spiders? Because they must get some venom from the spiders, scientists put some venom into an animal like horses or sheep, these animals make antibodies to fight the venom, scientists extract the anti-venom from the blood of these animals and make it safe. This can take many years. 27- Why didn't Ayman die when he was bitten by the spiders twice? Because he was saved for the first time by the Negra plants and his body had already produced a lot of antibodies when he was bitten in the second time. 28- What would have happened if nobody had disturbed the spiders? They wouldn't have come to our world again. They wouldn't have bitten people. They would have stayed under the ground in a remote desert area. 29- How did the foreign robbers disguise themselves on their way to the site? They put local number plates on their cars and turned off the engines and the lights of their cars so as not to be seen or heard. 30- Why could nobody see or find these spiders for a long time? Because they lived in a remote and unknown places under the desert sand. 31- Why was there no anti-venom for these deadly spiders? Because every venomous animal has it different venom and the anti-venom of one spider won't work against another one. These spiders are unknown so there was no anti-venom for them. 32- It wasn't believed that there were killer spiders in Egypt." Discuss and give examples? The oldest robber thought that there aren't killer spiders in Egypt. Ayman also thought there aren't killer spiders in modern Egypt. Dr Shreen thought the story of the spiders may be just a story. 33- Why was professor Jones interested in the spider Ayman had seen? Because it wasn't on the database and he hadn't seen it before so it is unknown spider and a scientific discovery for him. 34- How could spiders be stopped from spreading around the world? By killing the female spider and destroying the eggs or the young spiders in Egypt as it is the meeting point of three continents. 35- What did Colonel Mikhail ask the professor to do? What does he hope as well? To find a spider and identify it. He hopes these spiders known ones. 36- When and why did the female spider use its fang against itself? When the tank of the insecticide landed on its leg, the spider cut its leg with its fangs to free itself. 37- Why did Wafaa leave her team in troubles and drove back alone? To get Ayman the Negra and save him as his life was in her hands. 38- Why was Ayman in the intensive care? How was he kept alive? Because his case was serious after the spider had bitten him. He was kept alive when he was put on the ventilator. 39- Why didn't Ayman tell his sister that the spider was near her head? If he had told her, she would have moved and the spider would have bitten her. 40- Why was everyone surprised when Ayman didn't die from the female's bite? As there was no medicine for the female's bite even the Negra plant. 41- What made Ayman the most popular young man in Egypt? Because he killed the deadly female spider and saved the world from it so his picture was on TV and in the newspapers. 42- Why did the professor think that there was only one female spider? Because female spiders are bigger than male spiders and only Ayman reported seeing bigger spider. 43- Why did Ayman feel like a new person with a new future? Because professor Jones offered him to study at Oxford University and all the best employers would want a man like Ayman so he won't worry about job or studying. 44- The spider Ayman saw in the garden wasn't our friend (as professor Jones said) like the other spiders, How? It was as big as a small apple with 8 eyes and 8 legs each leg was like a pencil. It had two fangs each one was two centimeters. It was black with two thick yellow lines on its back. It was deadly unlike others spiders which only kill flies and mosquitoes. 45- Why were all people thankful and grateful to Ayman? Because he was brave, intelligent and ready to give his life to save others. He told the police about the deadly spiders. He saved a lot of people by killing the female spider. 46- Why did the men's cars move without lights and with a silent engine? So as not to be seen by anyone " the archaeologists". 47- Why were the men carrying special equipment that could see through walls? To detect / find out more underground rooms that may contain gold and treasures 48- Why did Ayman write an e-mail to Dr Shereen Fakhry at Oxford University? To tell her about the spider he had seen. To ask for information about the strange spider he had seen. 49- What did the spider do when it found a quiet dark place? It laid 2000 eggs and waited. 50- What did Dr Fakhry receive from the archaeologist in Egypt? A picture of deadly black and yellow spider found in an ancient tomb near Bawiti. 51- In her computer conversation with Ayman, what does Dr Fakhry suggest he does if he sees the spider again? To photograph the spider if he sees it again. 52- What did the Ancient Egyptians use as a medicine against the spider bites? The roots of a plant called Echinacea Negra plant. 53- What did the people do with the dead spiders from the underground tombs? They sent their venom sacs to an antivenom lab so that scientists could develop a new antivenom. 54- What made the journey with the plants so difficult for the three cars? The heavy rain made the journey with the plants difficult for the three cars. 55- Why was it so important that this journey was successful? To bring the Echinacea Negra plants to the hospital to save Ayman Hassan from the deadly bite of the spiders. 56- What did the newspaper report say about Ayman? Ayman saved hundreds of lives. 57- Why does Lamia think that the spiders in the desert should not be killed? Because they only hurt people when people disturb them. 58- Destroying all the spiders in the archaeological site was a matter of argument between Captain Ahmed and Professor Jones. Discuss? Captain Ahmed thought that the spiders should be destroyed as ten people were killed by the spiders and his duty was to stop more deaths. Professor Jones said it was impossible as they didn’t know how big the area was nor how many spiders there were in the underground tombs. Also, the site was very important for tourism and the spiders are a great scientific discovery. Captain Ahmed replied that the matter of destroying the spiders or not should be discussed at a higher level with Colonel Mikhail. 59- Both Ayman and the robbers used the computer but differently. Explain. Ayman used his computer for his studies and making friends from other countries. The robbers used the computer to get information about the treasure in the tombs and connect it to the GPR to see what was behind the walls. 60- What saved Ayman's life science or nature or both? Give a reason. Science saved Ayman's life when his breathing stopped and was kept alive on a ventilator. Nature saved Ayman through the Negra plant from which doctors made medicine and gave him. "It's the same in Britain. But maybe you'll be lucky." (to Ayman and ED) 2. "Right. I think you have to be flexible." (to Ayman, ED & Ali) 16 - Ali 1. "You can't always get what you want." (to Ayman, ED & Jill) 17 - Dr. Shereen: 1. "Thank you for your e-mail. I think the town was a real town, but nobody knows exactly where it was. (to Ayman, in her first e-mail) 2. The story of the spiders may be just a story. Good luck with identifying your spider." (to Ayman, in her first e-mail) 3. "Maybe the spider came from Bawiti to your town." (to Ayman) 5. "I hope you're right. But I think you should tell the police about all this." (to Ayman) 5. "OK. But if you see the spider again, please try to photograph it. I want to identify it." (to Ayman) 6."How many known species are there?" (to Susan) 7."You mean, new species are often discovered?" (to Susan) 8."You're right. I'm not very keen on spiders!" (to Prof. Jones) 9."He described it before he saw this picture. He said it was very big and black with two thick yellow lines on its back. And then I was sent this picture." (to Prof. Jones) 10."Do you think he really saw this spider?" (to Prof. Jones) 11."But, if he saw it, why has nobody seen any of these spiders before? (to Prof. Jones) 12."How could they live under the desert for thousands of years? I mean, how could they survive?" (to Prof. Jones) 13."Why would the spiders live in only one place?" (to Prof. Jones) 14."That means Ayman and his family might be in danger." (to Prof. Jones) 15."But hospitals can treat spider bites, can't they?" (to Prof. Jones) 16."Let's hope that Ayman was mistaken." (to Prof. Jones) 17."But professor, we don't know for sure that this spider is real." (to Prof. Jones) 18. " Professor Malcolm thinks the spider may be very dangerous. Please be careful if you see it again. (to Ayman) 19. "Can you tell the professor that I have more information about 'echinacea negra': it is almost extinct and grows only in Sinai. A researcher in the Department of Botanical Science at Cairo University has studied the plant. Her name is Wafaa Sultan. (to Ayman; in her third e-mail) 18 - Susan Bennett: 1. "Don't worry. We'll find it on the database. On this CD there's a list of all the known species of spider in the world." (to Dr. Shereen) 2. "About 30,000. The number goes up all the time." (to Dr. Shereen) 3. "Oh, yes. Professor Jones finds three or four unknown species every year on his trips to South Africa and South America." (to Dr. Shereen) 4. "Yes, Professor Malcolm Jones. He's the head of my department. He's a very famous arachnologist. He's written books on spiders and other arachnids." (to Dr. Shereen) 5. "Those are all the black & yellow spiders matching your description." (to Dr. Shereen) 6. "I think we should talk to Professor Jones." (to Dr. Shereen) 19 - Professor Malcolm Jones: 1. "What a nuisance! I've had to cancel my next trip." (to Shereen & Susan) 2. "I was ready to go to South America tomorrow and now I can't go! It's too bad!" (to Shereen & Susan) 3. "No, no. Not at all. I'm sorry. I'm not being very polite, am I?" (to Shereen & Susan) 4. "I'm sorry. I was looking forward to that trip. I've been studying arachnids for 25 years, but I'm still excited about finding unknown species. There really is nothing more exciting!" (to Shereen & Susan) 5. "You don't like arachnids, do you?" (to Shereen) 6. " If there weren't any spiders, there would be more flies and mosquitoes and other pests. Spiders are our friends. Anyway, what can I do for you?" (to Shereen) 7. "Interesting. I haven't seen anything like this before. And it's not on the database?" (to Shereen & Susan) 8. "This young man in Egypt - Ayman - did he see the picture first or did he describe the spider before he saw the picture?" (to Shereen) 9."That's interesting. That's very interesting." (to Shereen & Susan) 10."Do you think he really saw this spider?" (to Shereen) 11."Maybe these spiders live in a remote part of the desert. They've never left that place because the desert around them is too hot and too dry. " (to Shereen & Susan) 12."Maybe all the other spiders died when the climate changed 2,000 years ago" (to Shereen & Susan) 13."Not just him and his family. Everyone in Hamdayya might be in danger." (to Shereen & Susan) 14."A doctor can give you an injection of anti-venom. The anti-venom works against the venom. But there is no anti-venom for this spider." (to Shereen & Susan) 15."Because every venomous animal has a different venom. The anti-venom for one spider won't work against the venom of a different spider. So if these spiders are unknown, there is no anti-venom. Scientists will have to develop a new anti-venom." (to Shereen & Susan) 16."It can take years to develop safe antivenom." (to Shereen & Susan) 17." If he wasn't mistaken... I mean... If he really saw that spider, it's not just Hamdayya that's in danger." (to Shereen & Susan) 18."He said the spider was very big, didn't he? Well, usually female spiders are bigger than males. I think this spider may have been female." (to Shereen & Susan) 19. "Yes, it is. It's very bad. Most spiders lay a lot of eggs. Some species lay more than 2,000 eggs at one time. These eggs develop very quickly. Four weeks is the maximum. They will spread to other towns, where thousands of people could die." (to Shereen & Susan) 20.And then what? Egypt is the meeting point of three continents. What will stop these spiders from spreading through Africa, Asia and Europe?" (to Shereen & Susan) 21."I think it is. And I've just decided where I'm going for this vacation. If there's an unknown species of spider in that town, I want to find it!" (to Shereen & Susan) 22."Good morning. I'm Malcolm Jones." (to Ayman's family) 23."You must be Ayman. This is very exciting, isn't it?" (to Ayman) 24."That's why I came to Egypt. If it's a known species, I can identify it." (to Colonel Mikhail) 25."I've brought equipment with me." (to Colonel Mikhail) 26."If the spiders are unknown, there is no antivenom for them. Other antivenoms will not contain the correct antibodies, so they won't work." (to Colonel Mikhail) 27."I don't know much about plants." (to Captain Ahmed) 28."This botanist, Wafaa Sultan, is the person to ask." (to Captain Ahmed) 29."Stand back! I'm going to switch on the smoker!" (to the officers & Ayman) 30."OK. Let's see what we've got." (to the officers & Ayman) 31."They're all adult males." (to the officers & Ayman) 32."He'll be OK. I think he just breathed in some insecticide." (to the officers & Ayman) 33."I can tell you that this spider is not a known species." (to Captain Ahmed) 34."Before I left Oxford, I searched the database of all known species. I looked at all the black and yellow spiders on the database and I found no spider like this one." (to Captain Ahmed) 35."You can't destroy these spiders! this is a new species. This is a great scientific discovery " (to Captain Ahmed) 36."You're right. You must do what is necessary. But, in my opinion, it's impossible." (to Captain Ahmed) 37."The spiders are under the ground. We don't know where all the underground rooms and passages are. We don't even know how big the area is. You can kill some of the spiders, but some of them will live, so the plan will not succeed. But you will damage this important archaeological site." (to Captain Ahmed) 38."Let's hope it hasn't produced any young yet." (to Captain Ahmed) 39."There is probably only one female spider in the town because the females are very big, and nobody except Ayman has reported a big spider" (to Colonel Mikhail) 40."In any case, the female spider is a thousand times more dangerous than the male." (to Colonel Mikhail) 41."Spiders don't live more than a few weeks. But the female spider probably has a nest. It may produce 1,000 or 2,000 young. Perhaps it has already produced them. They may be spreading through the town now as we speak." (to Colonel Mikhail) 42."The nest will be somewhere - dark and quiet and cool." (to Colonel Mikhail) 43."In an empty building, or in a room below ground level." (to Colonel Mikhail) 20 - Colonel Mikhail: 1. "My men are going to be in danger from these spiders until we get the correct anti-venom. We can't do that until we have identified the spiders. I can get an expert from Cairo, but that will take time. Could you find one of these spiders and identify it?" (to Prof. Jones) 2. We have protective clothing. Do you need any other special equipment?" (to Prof. Jones) 3. "We also need to know if these spiders have reached the town. You will be able to tell us that,Ayman. If Professor Malcolm finds one of these spiders, you must tell us whether it is the same as the spider that you saw." (to Prof. Jones) 4. "Good. Please get your equipment, Professor. You both leave in thirty minutes with Captain Ahmed El-Sherif. And thank you, Professor, and you, Ayman." (to Prof. Jones & Ayman) 5. "if the spiders are an unknown species, is there an antivenom that we can use?" (to Prof. Jones) 6. "I see. Let's hope it is a known species." (to Prof. Jones) 7. "No, we don't. I'll phone the university and find this Wafaa Sultan. If the spiders are an unknown species, we'll send her to Sinai to get some of this echinacea negra." (to Captain Ahmed) 8. "Everybody has left this part of town. Tomorrow we will search this area and find the spider that you saw, Ayman. Extra officers have arrived. Captain, you will lead the search. Ayman, I'd like you to show us where you saw the spider. " (to Prof. Jones, Captain Ahmed & Ayman) 9."Are we looking for just one spider or many spiders?" (to Prof. Jones) 10."You mean its bite is stronger?" (to Prof. Jones) 11."So the most urgent task is to find the female spider's nest." (to Prof. Jones) 12. "Where does a spider like to build its nest?" (to Prof. Jones) 13."Is the female spider definitely dead?" (to Captain Ahmed) 14. "They've found some echinacea negra plants, and the cars are on their way back. A helicopter will pick up Wafaa Sultan and the plants. " (to Captain Ahmed) 15."Wafaa Sultan says that other species of echinacea are already used for some spider bites, but this one is stronger. She says it might work for these spiders, but only for the bites of males and young spiders. It might save Ayman." (to Captain Ahmed) 16."She says that echinacea negra won't work for the bite of the female. The female's venom is too strong. So we must be sure that the female is dead." (to Captain Ahmed) 17."Ayman Hassan doesn’t have much more time." (to himself ) 21 - Captain Ahmed: 1. "We have one hour before we reach the site. Tell me everything about spiders." (to Prof. Jones & Ayman) 2. "How is antivenom made? And why does it take a long time? (to the Prof.) 3. "And you think these spiders are an unknown species?" (to the Prof.) 4. "Then we will have no protection against them for years." (to the Prof.) 5. "Well, sir, we don't have anything better yet, do we, sir?" (to the Colonel) 6. "Professor, where is the best place to set up your equipment?" (to the Prof.) 7. "The spider's fangs broke through his face mask! We must leave here immediately." (to the Prof. and the officers) 8."Can you identify the spiders now?" (to the Prof.) 9."What is the best way to destroy these spiders?" (to the Prof.) 10." I understand your scientific interest, but ten people have died already. My job is to prevent more deaths." (to the Prof) 11."I will pass your opinion to the colonel. This matter must be decided at a higher level." (to the Prof.) 12. "Do not let anybody come near this site. And do not let anything leave here without a careful search. Not a car, not a box, nothing." (to the officers) 13."The colonel wants me to return to the town. We must bring the dead spiders with us, and send their venom sacs to an antivenom lab. The scientists there will begin work on an antivenom." (to Professor Jones & Ayman) 14."The colonel has organized that. The botanist from Cairo University is leaving by helicopter for Sinai. The police there will take her into the mountains to get the plants. We must find the spider that you saw in Hamdayya." to Ayman & Pro. Jones) 15."Don't move! We're coming to help you!" (to the officer with broken face mask) 16."Your suit's torn! Get out! Get out!" (to Ayman) 17."My men are looking for the body now, and the professor is helping them." (to Colonel Mikhail) 18."He has only hours to live unless the Echinacea negra can get to him in time, and work. What's the situation in Sinai?" (to Colonel Mikhail) 19."Are these plants likely to help Ayman?" (to Colonel Mikhail) 20."Yes, sir. I'll tell you as soon as we find it." (to Colonel Mikhail) 22 - Captain Osama: 1. "This is bad. In this weather, the road can just disappear." (to Wafaa Sultan) 2. "The road is not our only problem." (to Wafaa Sultan) 3. "The rain will pour down the mountains and flood the wadis below. If we can't get to the wadis before they flood, we may not be able to cross them." (to Wafaa Sultan) 4. "We have to cross three wadis. They are usually dry, but they are probably filling up fast now." (to Wafaa Sultan) 5. "We're running out of time." (to Wafaa Sultan) 6. "The next wadi is twenty minutes away. I'm afraid it'll be too deep by that time." (to Wafaa Sultan) 7. "I don't know. But do we have a choice?" (to Wafaa Sultan) 8."Get the rope! I'll have to swim out to them." (to Farouk) 9."You have the plants. You must come across." (to the two officers of the 3rd car) 10."Their car's heavier than the jeep. They can get across." (to Wafaa Sultan) 11."They have to choose the right route, the right time and the right gear. They will only get one chance, so give them time." (to Farouk) 12."Watch out for us. Press the horn if you see a tree coming." (to Wafaa Sultan) 13."Stay in the car. We must keep it heavy." (to the two officers of the 3rd car) 14."It's no good! You'll have to get out and help!" (to the two officers of the 3rd car) 15."It's up to you now, Wafaa! Good luck!" (to Wafaa Sultan) 23 - Wafaa Sultan: 1. "We have to get through. We have a young man's life in our hands." (to Captain Osama) 2. "And the plants are in there. We mustn't lose them." (to Captain Osama & Farouk) 24 - The reporter: 1."The minister described Ayman Hassan as 'a brave young man who was ready to give his life to save others.' (to the TV viewers) 2." But tonight, people throughout Egypt are not only praising Ayman; they are also celebrating. They are celebrating because Ayman is still alive!" (to the TV viewers) 3."You expected Ayman to die from the bite of the female spider, didn't you? So why didn't he die?" (to Dr Salah) 4."And a very special 'Thank you' to Ayman Hassan, the most popular young man in Egypt today!" (to the TV viewers) 25 - The minister: 1."We can only guess how many thousands of people might have died without the intelligence and bravery of this young man." (to the reporter & TV viewers) 26 - Dr. Salah: 1. " The female's bite is very, very dangerous, and we have no medicine for it." (to the reporter & TV viewers) 2. " When he was bitten a second time, he already had so much antivenom in his body, that the bite had little effect on him! We now expect Ayman to wake up very soon!" (to the reporter & TV viewers) ================================================================================================================================================================
[1] - A job that you would like to do when you finish your education. It is known that any person should have a certain goal in life. If the person has a goal, he should exert great efforts to achieve this goal. There is a big variety of jobs in different fields. People differ in their desires and abilities. Thus, not every one can take a certain job. My goal for the future is to become a doctor. This is the job I admire most of all. I have a lot of reasons why I want to be a doctor. I would like to do this job to serve my country, help poor people in my village and earn a lot of money. I also want to help cure the poor people free of charge. One other reason is that I want to do post graduate studies on serious diseases to try to find a cure to help a lot of people get rid of their pains. The job of the doctor needs some qualities. A successful doctor should be honest, helpful, brave, patient, faithful and many other good qualities. [2] - A book that you have enjoyed reading recently . It is known that reading is very important for us and it is the food of our souls .We also increase our knowledge through reading. Reading stories helps us forget our worries. I have read the stories of Gulliver's travels. Gulliver's Travels was published and became a great success. Different people have different explanations for this. To some it was an imaginative children's story, to others it was a clever commentary on the politics of the day Finally, reading stories is very enjoyable. [3] - A form of exercise that you enjoy doing; It is important for us to get proper exercise in our life. There are many forms of exercises like running, walking, swimming….etc .All these exercise will help us feel our best. It is advisable to do the exercises which are suitable for us .The form of exercise I like doing is running. This exercise is very useful for my muscles .It also makes my body strong and renews my activity. It is easy to practise and doesn't cost us any money. We should this exercise for improving our health and it prevents many diseases such as heart diseases and depression. For the previous reasons I am keen on doing this exercise regularly. [4]- An object that you like. It could be a mobile phone, a necklace, a watch or any other cheap or expensive object. In fact the mobile phone is one of the most important inventions. However, it has some advantages and some disadvantages. First of all, we can start with its advantages. It enables people to contact each other easily at any time in any place. It is small enough to carry. It is useful for some people who work in remote areas such as engineers and businessmen. It is important for us in case of danger or troubles. On the other hand, it has some disadvantages. Some doctors think that it causes some serious diseases. It also makes people lazy because it prevents them from visiting each other. Finally, we can say it is advisable for people to use it only when necessary to avoid its serious side effects. [5] -The Egyptian food you would like people from other countries to try Thousands of years ago, the ancient Egyptians left evidence of their love for food. Well-preserved wall paintings and carvings have been discovered on tombs and temples. Many of these ancient foods are still eaten in Egyptian households today. Peas, beans, cucumbers, dates, figs, and grapes were popular fruits and vegetables in ancient times. In Egypt, most establishments use native ingredients and will offer fruits and vegetables in season. Many of the smaller, Egyptian-style restaurants specialize in basic meat and bean dishes. For most Egyptians, meat is a luxury used in small amounts, cooked with vegetables, and served with or over rice. [6] - " Describing a place that is off the beaten track " Most travellers to Egypt visit the famous sites in Cairo and Upper Egypt but Egypt has many other interesting historical places which are off the beaten track. One of these places is Sinai. Travellers once described Sinai as “thirty thousand square kilometres of nothing.” In fact, Sinai has some of the most beautiful landscape in Egypt. It is also home to wildlife such as the fox and the wolf, just as it was 3,000 years ago. The monastery of St Catherine is located in the centre of Sinai. Built in the sixth century when the Romans were in Egypt, this is the oldest Christian monastery in the world. Its huge walls, which are 12 - 60 metres high, were built to protect its treasures. Finally, I advise travellers to visit this place. [7] - How you think people could protect the environment in you town or city It is clear that our environment is exposed to a great danger because the climate has become more warming than before. All of us must co-operate and stand as a one man to put and end to this serious problem which threatens our life .For example we must reduce the amount of chemicals, carbon dioxide and energy . We can also grow plants because the trees purify the air through getting carbon dioxide and emitting oxygen necessary for life. In brief, we must exert great efforts to solve this problem which threatens our life on and to lead a happy life free from problems. [8]- "A building in your town or city you think tourists would enjoy visiting I think the pyramids are the most famous buildings of the historic places in the world .They are one of the seven wonders in the world. They show the greatness of our great ancestors .The pharaohs built them to burry their dead kings. They built them by using large stones and rocks which withstand all the natural disasters like the earthquakes. A lot of tourists from all over the world come to admire our these ancient building. To shed more light on that , we can say that our ancient Egyptians were great people because they left us great things which make all people from all over the world admire. To sum up I can say that our duty as Egyptians to keep these buildings either ancient or modern to enable our coming generations to enjoy them . [9] - The importance of the money No one can ignore that money is a mixed blessing. in other words, it is a good servant but a bad master. On the one hand, money helps us to get all our needs but we should not earn it in a dishonest way. With the help of money problems can be solved. Money makes money and with money people can lead a comfortable life. On the other hand money is the root of all evils. For the sake of getting money some people deceive, kill and commit crimes. Wars are waged and thousands of people are killed because of money. [10] -" The importance of cooperation in life Without cooperation, life would be impossible. All living creatures are in need of cooperation to live. Any complex or easy job can't be successfully achieved without cooperation . Cooperation can help all countries to overcome any threat or harm which has a bad effect on their common interests. There are many situations where groups of people such as surgeons or scientists or a sports team need to cooperate to succeed. The family members also should cooperate together to lead a happy life .Animals and birds need to cooperate. To succeed, you will have to show tolerance and work with these people. [11] - The importance of rules and the bad results of breaking them" Rules are important because they help people to work together make it possible to organize things and to cooperate. They help to make sure things run smoothly and that people know what other people will do in certain situations. If there are no rules or people break the rules. People don't know what others will do in certain situations and makes life unpredictable. People can get hurt .Cars can crash and there could be a complete lack of order. [12] - The Olympic Games The Olympic Games are a way for people to have contact with other nations and come together. Through them, countries can learn about the heroes of other places in the world. Countries have to cooperate for a successful Olympic Games, and so they have helped to develop understanding and respect between nations, Governments can provide sports facilities for sportsmen and sportswomen. They benefit because the host nations get lots of publicity and so a lot of attention is focused on them. International sport also allows smaller or poorer nations to excel .They allow cultures to come into contact because people travel and meet and are exposed to other cultures. [13] - “The importance of sports and games" or “The value of sports" Games and sports are very important in our life. Sports and games are encouraged everywhere in Egypt because they make our bodies strong, prevent us from getting too fat and keep us healthy. Games and sports make people lead a healthy and active life. They can join clubs to practise their favourite sports, enjoy their time and feel great happiness. Sports and games teach our youth discipline, co-operation, the sense of belonging and protect them against deviation and taking drugs. It is important for us to get proper exercise in our life. There are many forms of exercises like running, walking, swimming…etc .All these exercise will help us feel our best. It is advisable to do the exercises which are suitable for us .The form of exercise I like to do is running. This exercise is very useful for my muscles .It makes my body strong and renews my activity. It is easy to practise and doesn't cost us any money. We should be keen on doing for improving our health. [14] - " Shopping online" It is known that many people prefer online shopping for many reasons. Things are cheaper for customers to buy and they have more choice because they can shop in many different places, looking for the cheapest prices. They can buy everything online and shop from home. They don't have to go to the shops, so it is quick and convenient. On the other hand, for customers, it can be risky because of credit card fraud. You can only buy online if you have a credit card, so children often find it hard to shop online .Also, older people and people who don't have experience using a computer might find it difficult .You cannot see the products, only pictures of them. You don't buy them and take them away. The products might be delivered late and you have to wait for them. Sometimes the wrong products are sent or they arrive damaged or do not arrive at all. [15]- The Nile basin crisis The Nile is the artery of life in Egypt on which we depend mainly to irrigate our fields and to drink. So our share from the Nile water is a national security case. Banning a drop of water to reach us in Egypt, will be a matter of life and death. Throughout history the great Egyptian rulers paid attention to the Nile and its strategic importance as part of our national security since the time of ancient Egyptians. There have been continuous warnings that Israel is messing around in the Nile Basin countries encouraging them to build dams giving them all they needed to do such thing in order to affect Egypt's share from the Nile water. Therefore there is a huge responsibility lay on everyone of us. We shouldn't waste the Nile water or use it in useless projects like golf courses and swimming pools everywhere while farmers do not have enough water for irrigation and reclaiming land. I believe the current crisis is an alarm to all of us. If we have a real cooperation with the Nile basin countries, if we can make them our really allies and invest and trade with them and build bridges with them instead of walls. If we deepen our relations with them, we won't give Israel the chance to affect them. Those African countries need us as much as we need them. [16] -The world financial crisis The world is suffering from the worst economic crisis since the 1930s. The twenty-First Century is not the first time an economic crisis occurred. What Caused the Crisis? This crisis resulted from overspending and carrying too much debt. People in the United States, have been accustomed to a lifestyle of living wastefully without regard to the amount of debt they accumulate. They don't have enough savings to bear such financial hardships. To face the world financial crisis, all sectors should increase their actual productivity and the total expenditure should be increased to complete infrastructure projects, which may require enormous funds. In addition, the Arab funds operating in the area of development should play their role and adopt a national plan to complete the projects of electricity and infrastructure in the Arab world. [17] - The Road to success is not straight The road to success is not straight. You will have obstacles on the way. But, if you have determination, you will go to a place called success. Nothing succeeds like success. This is a true saying because we all work for success whose joy can be felt by successful people and their families and close friends. To succeed in life, you must do your best in achieving you goal. Once you have reached your goal, you must work harder to keep it. But does success have enemies? Yes, the enemies of success are those who know to how succeed but do not have the enthusiasm and hard work to achieve it. Such people must be avoided. [18] - Charitable Organizations No one can deny that charitable organizations play a very important role in all countries of the world. It is known that there are a lot of people who live in abject poverty. Those people are in bad need of those who lend them a hand to lead a decent life. Charitable organizations do an excellent job when they collect money from rich people and give it to those who are in dire need of it. They sometimes ask teachers to give the poor students private lessons for free. They may provide them with clothes and food. There are also medical charitable organizations which help a large number of poor patients. Some of the best doctors treat the needy free of charge. It is our duty to help charitable organizations by all possible means as they contribute greatly to relieving the pains of poor people and draw a smile on their lips. In this way, they open the door of hope before them and make them feel that they are not alone in this world. [19] - Computers The computer has a lot of advantages. It can store a lot of information; it can do a lot of calculations in no time. it can pay wages, reserve seats on planes, design buildings, compose music and do many jobs. Doctors also use the computer widely in their job. But it has also some disadvantages ,it can waste our time if it is used foolishly or if it is used just for fun. it has also a bad effect on our health specially the sight. it also teaches the children violence through playing the computer games. So it is a double-edged weapon. [20] - Technology in our life Technology is everywhere nowadays. We all enjoy technology but in different ways. Now, we can travel from one place to another very easily, comfortably and fast. Modern means of transport are now supplied with all means of comfort. Space travel is now more possible than it used to be in the past. One day people may be able to enjoy space journeys. Technology has also played a role in medical care. Now the computer can be used to check people's health accurately. It is also used for teaching. Students can benefit from the internet in their researches as well. No doubt technology has changed our life to the better. [21] - Mass Media Thanks to the great achievement in mass media the world has become a small village. It's heartwarming to feel that the world has become a small village. What happens in a small village affects other parts of the world Now satellites bring us fresh news from all over the world The internet has made possible contacting others for purposes of science and technology. This concrete revolution in means of communication has paved the way for solving world issues and coming to grips with pros and cons, Television plays an important part In forming the culture of people because television beams the up to date ideas. A lot of people enjoy staying at home watching films and serials. At the end we can say that we live in a global city which makes us in contact. [22] - The Internet. The invention of the computer was the first step that led to the development of the Internet system. The Internet is a giant networks all over the world through telephones. Thanks to the Internet the world has become a small village where nothing is far any more. There are several advantages of using the Internet. The most important advantage is that you can do research work and get information about anything you want. You can follow news of events as they happen all over the world. You can use the e-mail service to send messages at the same time you type them. You can hold a chat with more than one person from different countries at the same time. You can look for and apply for a job through the Internet. [23] - The advantages and disadvantages of mobile phones. Modern technology plays an important role in the progress of many aspects such as industry, agriculture, education, medicine and surgery. Mobile is one of the inventions which change every thing in our life beginning from communication ending with business. Mobile has made our life different as you can contact with anyone on the surface of the Earth in a minute. Mobile is essential for businessman because they can make a lot of contracts using mobiles. At the time of emergency you can call for help. Those who suffer from diseases can make calls at any time from any place. But on the other hand mobile is expensive for some people to buy. It costs a lot of money to pay the price of the card. Mobile phones cause a lot of diseases if people misuse it. Also some people miss understand the real cause of using mobile and some at them use them in crimes and disturbing other people. Some students use it in cheating in exams. But for mobile phones, people would face a lot of problems in using it. [24] - The rights of the child Children are the rose of our life. They are the candle that illuminates our days They are the smile on our lips. Today's children are tomorrow's men .Children have a lot of rights as taken for granted. The United Nations has announced a list of over 40 special rights that all the children under the age of 18 should enjoy. The child has the right to a name and a nationality and to know his or her parents. They have the right to education, health and to be treated well. I think that a child should have as many rights as the adult. New laws should be used in everyday life to protect them from abuse. In a word, children are the future men that will shoulder the responsibility of their nations . [25]- Organic farming and genetically modified food Today more and more people are becoming interested in organic farming for different reasons. Organic farmers grow food naturally without using pesticides or chemical fertilizers. They claim that pesticides kill the small creatures and insects that birds and other wildlife feed on. They are poisonous, expensive and very harmful to the soil. Moreover, supermarkets in many countries have shelves for organic food. Consumers don't object to paying a bit extra for healthy food that has no side-effects on their health. In the end, if you ask me which you buy organic or inorganic, I'd say buy organic food and save your health. Genetically-modified foods can solve many of the world's hunger and help protect and preserve the environment. Yet, there are many challenges ahead for governments, especially in the areas of safety testing, regulation, international policy and food labeling. Many people feel that genetic engineering is the technology of the future. We can't ignore its benefits. However, we must proceed with caution to avoid causing unintended harm to human health and the environment as a result of our enthusiasm for this powerful technology. [26]- Pollution Pollution is witnessed in all aspects of life. There is pollution in the air around us, the sound, the water, the food, the colour and almost everything we use. Air pollution is manifested in the exhaust, smoke and gases that are emitted by cars and factories. Water of rivers are polluted by the wastes and remains of factories thrown in them. Our food is polluted by the insecticides, pesticides and fertilizers used in cultivation. Noise pollution is caused by modern means of transport. The air carries such sounds continuously to our ears. In order to lessen pollution in our atmosphere, cars and all means of transport should be well checked to prevent the spread of exhaust gases in the air we breathe. All harmful substances should not be allowed to be thrown in rivers. In agriculture, harmful substances should be banned. We should resort to organic farming. Millions' of cars blow their harms and cause pollution of sound which harms our hearing. In a word, pollution which has arisen to serious levels has to be overcome. [27]- The internet and the glorious revolution Technology is every where nowadays. It has played an important role in the Egyptian revolution. This was represented in the use of the internet and the social communication sites, like " face book" and "Twitter ". Generally the internet is used as a means of getting information, making researches, communicating with other people and for many other purposes. In " 25th January revolution, it was the peaceful weapon that freed Egypt from its tyrants. The internet was the means that youth used to communicate with each other to fight injustice and corruption. They wanted to free themselves from all restrictions and injustice. They wanted to put an end to the corruption that prevailed year after year. The internet was their main tool to do so, they gathered in Tahrir Square to write the new future of Egypt. [28]- The 25th Jan, Revolution / Youth Revolution The people of Egypt are united under a common goal. Men and women are joined together calling for their rights. The internet plays a large role in the organization of the Egyptian revolution. In Tahrir Square , thousands of Egyptians young and old , rich and poor gathered calling for freedom and dignity. Peaceful demonstrators filled Cairo streets and many other parts all over the country. They demanded political change and asked for a fair election. The military was greeted warmly on the streets of Cairo . The leaderless movement managed to achieve its goals. Residents helped to direct traffic and formed armed neighborhood watches in districts across the city. Participants placed emphasis on the peaceful nature of the struggle . It has been proved that the Egyptian Armed Forces enjoy a better reputation with the public. Egyptian women were highly active throughout the revolution. The revolution has showed the people of the world, not just the Arab world, that peaceful change can come about and violence and extremism is not required in order to achieve democracy . [290]- Egypt after January 25th Revolution Egyptians have bravely shown the world how a peaceful revolution can drive positive political change. It is now time to create a positive cultural change in Egypt. If we want to truly be a decent and civil society, let us live the true meaning of dignity and respect for all humankind. Let us also abandon all our previous ills. Let us create order out of chaos From this day forward, let us work day and night to get a glorious future. let us work hard to have a powerful economy, let all of us be responsible for the new Egypt we now need to build. Let us say, "that only work and production, education and science is our only way. Surely then, will Egypt be able to realize its many hopes for a better today and tomorrow. After the great success of the January 25 Revolution, all the Egyptian people should begin to reconstruct their country. This won't happen unless they all get back to work and forget their personal interests. They need to build their future and that of their kids. They have to start hard work right now, otherwise they will lose everything, if they really care about this country, they must do everything to restore stability and send signals to everyone that Egypt is becoming stable and they are working on that. [30]- Citizenship & national unity in Egypt No one can deny that national unity in Egypt plays a very important role in our society as Islam and Christianity are the two main religions in Egypt. It is well known that Egypt is a peace-loving nation, so peace, safety and security should prevail among her people whether Muslims or Christians. Muslims and Christians, regardless of religion, are Egyptians; they live on the same land; they breathe the same air and drink from one Nile and belong to one country Egypt, so they should co-operate all together to face external challenges and prevent anyone from causing any sectarian sedition in Egypt. They should enjoy love and understanding and at the same time, they should be hand in hand to defend Egypt. All Egyptians are equal. There is no difference between Muslims and Christians. They have the same rights and are to do the same duties. They are the two elements of the nation. All Egyptians always say, "Religion is for Allah and Egypt is for all" This means that there is no distinction between the sons of Egypt. Muslims and Christians share different occasions together on feasts, both Muslims and Christians exchange, congratulations, gifts and good wishes. Finally, I'd like to point out that Egypt will ever remain a homeland for all its sons. In brief, the school, the house, the mosque and the church have a role to teach children how to respect other religions. [31]- Japan tsunami We all know and hear about tsunami that occurred in Japan was a result of a hard earthquake . Tsunami is a series of water waves caused by the displacement of a large volume of a body of water usually in an ocean owing to the immense volumes of water and the high energy involved , tsunamis can devastate coastal regions . Japan tsunami was very large and it made people feel sad, scared and horrified. For Japan ,tsunami was the heaviest crisis in history since the second world war. In spite of all difficulties, it is certain that Japanese people can unite to work together. The Japanese have been suffering a lot since that disaster happened thousands of people were killed or missed. Several towns have been destroyed . Power plants were badly damaged. In spite of all the difficulties, the Japanese can restore the welfare of the community. [32]- Global worming Global warming is one of the global issues which threatens us in the future. It's defined as an increase in the temperature of the earth. The climate change is due to a number of natural reasons such as the heat of the sun? volcanic eruption and greenhouse gases such as CO2. In addition, the continuous destruction of rainforests makes matters worse. Global warming will affect the world as follows. The ice at the Arctic and Antarctic is melting, sea levels will rise and some parts of the world will be flooded, making many people homeless. Countries and individuals should co-operate together to reduce the effect of this natural phenomenon. Stopping the destruction of rainforests is the responsibility of countries. Using cars if need be is the responsibility of individuals. We shouldn't stand handlessly in facing any threat to our environment. [33]- Energy problem Today's world has been suffering from lots of problems. Energy shortage is one of them that should be scientifically solved. In the past, people depended on the natural energy such as the wind, the sun and water. These sources of energy were available, renewable and clean. However, man has made some new inventions that enabled him to discover oil, coal and natural gas. These forms of energy have become very expensive, rare and limited. That's why the price of these sources have gone up recently. Scientists have a big role to solve this acute problem. They have to find alternative sources of energy. People should do their best to reduce using these limited sources. More trees should be planted alongside roads to face the problem of pollution in our great towns. People should also make good use of the renewable and cheap sources. Finally ,one can say that our world has lots of problems nowadays. However, these problems can be scientifically solved. It is said that no problem is insolvable. [34]- Life in the future Our life in the future will change completely. Computers and internet will occupy our life. So, instead of wasting time going here and there, we will use the internet to get our needs, Students of the future will get the information they need through their computers which will be available and will be within the reach of their hands. Housewives can shop through the internet and the housework will be done by certain kinds of robots. Most houses will be air conditioned and people won't suffer from the heat of the sun. Our factories will be computerized. There will be better means of communications and transport. I think scientists will control the weather, so there will be no floods or drought. One thing is certain in the future, man will not change. [35]- Democracy in Egypt Since the dawn of history, man has lots of dreams. One of them is to live in a democratic society. That's why people all over the world call for freedom nowadays. Democracy means that people are given all their rights. It helps people to have the sense of belonging and to be loyal to their own country. People can also feel that they are decision makers of the country. Concerning our country, Egypt has taken great steps towards democracy. Nowadays, everyone has the right to express his opinion freely. Also the government encourages people especially the youth to take part in the political life. The Egyptians have called lately for changes in the constitution These changes will enable everyone in our country to apply for the presidential elections. Finally, one can say that all the citizens have the right to live in a democratic society. However, people should never abuse democracy. ============================================================================================================================================================================= Letters and E- mails 1- Write an e-mail of about 100 words to: Your friend Hassan telling him about a book you have read recently. Your name is Nur Fahmy. Model Answer Dear Sam, How are you? I hope you are well. I'd like to tell you about my dream house. If you ask most people about their dream house, they will say that they dream of building a high-tech house provided with all means of comfort. However, if you ask me about this matter, I will give you a different answer. I wish I could build a house in Makkah near the Holy Mosque. I just want a very simple house with a small garden. I will make it from mud-bricks. Everyone knows that mud-brick houses are suitable for hot climate because they don't conduct heat well, so the inside stays cool. They are also easy and cheap to construct. I do believe Makah is an ideal location for my dream house. Living near the Holy Mosque is an advantage in itself as I will be able to pray the five daily prayers in the Holy Mosque which is the most revered place of worship for all Muslims. I will also do Umra from time to time and make Hajj every year. Best wishes.
